A Greenleaf man is behind bars after police say he led officers on a high-speed chase through Caldwell ending in spike strips, a crash, and a taser.

Police say Gary William Strawser, wanted on several warrants, sped off when an officer tried to pull him over for false plates in Caldwell around two o'clock Sunday afternoon. An officer called off the chase for safety concerns before another officer spotted the suspect. That's when investigators say Strawser turned around in the median of the interstate, then intentionally drove into oncoming traffic on South 21st Avenue.

Police followed the 25-year-old into a subdivision where he then crashed the van attempting to cross a canal.

He tried to take off on foot and was ultimately subdued by a taser. He now faces many felonies including drug charges, eluding,  and aggravated assault upon a peace officer.

Caldwell Police are asking any motorists who witnessed the pursuit and were almost struck by Strawser to contact them through dispatch at 208-454-7531 to provide a statement.
