BOISE — The Karlbom family likes to go big for the holidays.

"It's fun to be festive," said Ta'melle Karlbom.

However this year, they're dealing with their own version of the Grinch. Just a week ago her family installed a motion-activated doorbell camera, which recorded a man stealing their lawn ornaments.

"We were thinking it was maybe the snowman blowing into the sensor, but then we realized oh there's something moving out there," said Karlbom.

Her decorations are something her grandkids and others in the neighborhood look forward to each year.

"We have lots of children in the area, and lots of people don't do decorations," said Karlbom.

She's not the only one. She says after reporting to the police, she looked on her Nextdoor app and found others also missing their holiday decor.

"I started to realize more and more people were reporting the same thing," said Karlbom.

She says Boise police told her this is happening across the Treasure Valley. A kind of crime that does more than just dampens the holiday spirit.

"It's really frustrating because it leaves a sense of insecurity, you think you're safe and do all the precautions and its dark outside, and now we have this, and a couple of weeks ago a jogger was attacked, so that's also unsettling," said Karlbom.

We have not heard back from BPD yet. We will update as soon as more information is available.
