NAMPA, Idaho — The Nampa Fire Department is joining HOPE Guides to launch the Nampa Narcan initiative.

This groundbreaking initiative, set to start in August, is taking a step in the battle against opioid addiction.

When the fire department, or paramedics, are responding to an overdose call and administering Narcan, they are also leaving a dose of the Narcan Nasal Spray application. Narcan is used to reverse the effects of an overdose.

In addition to the medication, they are also leaving information to contact the addiction recovery group, HOPE Guides. HOPE Guides works with addicts to create a custom recovery plan that educates and provides access to resources, empowering them to get sober and save their future.

The first step is making the call. Although the group says it can take anywhere from three months to a year to make a full recovery, they often maintain relationships with participants for long after.
