A man police identified as a person of interest in two Lewiston homicides is now in custody.
About 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Richard Carlin, 73, was taken into custody without incident near Umatilla, Oregon, police said.

Lewiston detectives are securing search warrants and coordinating with other agencies as they continue to investigate the killings.

“There are no other suspects or persons of interest in this case at this time,” said Lewiston city spokesperson Carol Maurer.

About 5 a.m. Tuesday, police discovered two adults dead in a home in the 600 block of Preston Avenue in Lewiston.

“A third adult victim is currently in serious condition at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with a stab wound to his back. The names of the victims are not being released at this time,” Maurer stated.

Right now, police are saying very little about their investigation, including Carlin’s connection with the victims or how they were killed.

Carlin was believed driving a red, 1996 Toyota Corolla with Idaho license plate N100378, but it is unclear if Carlin was found with the vehicle.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Lewiston Police Detective Brian Birdsell at 208-746-0171.
