Two bodies have been recovered from an SUV that crashed into the Payette River near Cascade.

Crews had been searching for the vehicle since it went into the river on June 24th.

Police have not identified the victims at this time.

To reach the vehicle the river flow was reduced through Cascade Dam to 200 cubic feet per second.  That allowed divers from the Gem County Sheriff's Office and the Boise Scuba Center to find the 2017 Jeep Cherokee in the water upside down.

Crews used cables to pull the SUV to the west bank of the river, the vehicle was inspected and the two bodies were found inside.

As crews worked to recover the vehicle the Idaho Transportation Department reduced Highway 55 to one lane.  That closure was in effect between noon and roughly 3 p.m.
