Muddy trails can be just as dangerous as ones covered with water.

A horseback rider discovered this the hard way when she got stuck in a sinkhole recently. She and her horse survived the ordeal but the close call prompted several trail closures at the Hubbard Reservoir Recreation Area.

Currently, all trails are closed to all users except for the main loop.

"We're dealing with a lot of trails being closed due to high water. Most folks are familiar with that happening on the greenbelt near the river but in this case it's on a small, kind of off the beaten path reservoir recreation area towards Kuna," says Scott Koberg, director of Ada County Parks & Waterways. "So, it's unusual but we felt it was in the best interest of the trail users to close those trails at this time."

Up-to-date information on any one of the Ada County Parks & Waterways trail closures can be found on their Facebook page.

Managers of the trail will inspect the area once it dries out. After conducting some tests on the soil, they will determine whether or not the trail needs to be rerouted.
