Metro Meals on Wheels, serving Ada County, is driving into the weekend with a new vehicle to add to its fleet.
The organization was gifted with a 2018 Subaru Outback from Subaru of America and Larry H. Miller Subaru Friday, Nov. 10; bringing the total number of cars used to deliver meals up to seven.
Each month, Metro Meals on Wheels drives 5,200 miles to deliver meals to senior citizens.
The donated vehicle will help volunteers expand their reach.
"We deliver and serve over 900 hot meals each weekday," said Grant Jones, Director of Metro Meals on Wheels. "Today being Friday, we'll deliver an additional 700 frozen meals for seniors who don't have anything for the weekend; and that count is up 100 meals a day over this time last year."
This donation is part of Subaru's 50th anniversary, which the company is celebrating by donating 50 vehicles to select Meals on Wheels programs across the country.
