ONTARIO, OR – An inmate who escaped from Canyon County jail last Saturday was recaptured in Ontario, Oregon.

On Saturday, January 6th, 2016 at approximately 00:49 a.m., Jose Coronado was taken into custody without incident on the 600 block of SE 6th Avenue in Ontario, Oregon.

Jose fled custody by cutting a hole in the exterior wall of the minimum security housing in Caldwell with a jail-issued shaving razor last Saturday.

Officials said no force was used during the arrest, and there were no injuries to either officers or Coronado as a result of the arrest, but Coronado has several pre-existing stab wounds from an altercation that occurred the night before. He was transported to St. Alphonsus hospital in Ontario where he was treated and released.

Coronado was booked into the Malheur County Jail.

"Mr. Coronado is facing felony escape charges from Canyon County,” said Sheriff Kieran Donahue.

“I am extremely pleased he was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Coronado is now a victim of a crime in Oregon. When people choose to elude law enforcement and take refuge with the criminal element, they should expect that things like this could happen. It is my understanding Ontario Police will be investigating this incident," Donahue added.
