A stand-off that began about 8 p.m. Tuesday in Emmett has ended with a man taking his own life, according to Gem County Sheriff Chuck Rowland.

In a prepared statement, the Sheriff said, “We have determined the individual in this incident is deceased as a result of a self-inflicted wound.”

The man’s name was not released, since authorities have not yet notified family members.

The incident began Tuesday night when deputies responded to a domestic abuse call at a home on West Central Road, where an armed man refused to come out.

A woman was able to safely get out of the house. When deputies approached, they saw a man on the porch -– who then barricaded himself in the house, according to authorities.

The woman told police the man had several firearms in the house.

The stand-off continued through the night.

Come daylight, the police devised a plan of action and eventually entered the house, finding the man dead,

Central Road was shut down at Mesa Avenue during the stand-off.

The rural home is in an outlying area northwest of Emmett. No other homes were in the vicinity.

The Gem County Sheriff’s Office was helped by the Emmett Police Department and the Nampa Police Special Operations (SWAT) unit.
