Last June, Congressman Mike Simpson started a challenge to motivate Idahoans to lead a healthy lifestyle after losing almost 70 pounds himself.

It's called the Idaho STEPS challenge and Simpson has been encouraging people to join him in getting the amount of steps it would take to get from the U.S. Capital in Washington D.C. to the capital building in Boise.

Today, he was presented with the Wellness Frontiers Award for creating and promoting that program.

"I'm honored to, to have people look at us and say you know, we outta be doing something like that. Like I said a few minutes ago, the only way you’re going to control long term health care costs is for this country to get healthier," said Congressman, Mike Simpson.

Several groups have joined in getting their steps with Simpson including; St. Alphonsus' Meet Me Monday walking group, the Idaho Walk Bike Alliance, Safe Routes to School, Idaho Blue Cross Foundation, and the Idaho Alzheimer's Association.
