GARDEN CITY, ID – An 18-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning, accused of stealing a car that was left warming up in a driveway.

On Tuesday at about 5:30 A.M., Garden City Police officers were dispatched to a stolen vehicle call that had occurred near E. 44th St. and Adams St. The owner of the vehicle had their vehicle in the driveway warming up for about ten minutes and, when they returned, the vehicle was missing from the driveway.

Officers responded to the area and conducted an area search. With the help of Garden City citizens, officers learned that the vehicle was last seen driving recklessly near E. 48th St. and Adams St.

Officers responded to the area where they found the vehicle unoccupied. Officers continued to search for the subject and located him in another unlocked vehicle that he was attempting to steal.

The suspect, Christian McMahon, 18, of Boise, tried to run away from officers, but was arrested after a short foot pursuit, according to police.

Sergeant Madden said, “This was a great example of citizens and the police working together in order to stop a McMahon’s crime spree. We recognize that the success of law enforcement is dependent upon our ability to work with the citizens within our community. Our officers take pride in the community we serve and greatly appreciate the close working relationships we have with our community.”

McMahon was taken into custody by Garden City Police Officers and transported to the Ada County Jail for charges of grand theft auto, attempted grand theft auto, and resisting and obstructing officers.

“It is also a good reminder for all citizens to secure their vehicle and belongings when warming their vehicles, especially with winter months fast approaching,” added Madden.
