The body of a man found in the Boise foothills has been identified as Mark Irwin, 61, of Boise.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office released the man’s name Thursday afternoon.

He was first reported missing last month.

Boise Police investigators say there are “suspicious circumstances surrounding his death” and are asking the public for any information. They did not elaborate.

The Ada County Coroner’s Office was notified when a body was found in a vehicle near the Ada County/Boise County line. Due to the condition of the body, forensic identification was necessary,” according to a news release.

A BPD news release added, “This is an ongoing investigation and the details available for release are limited at this time.”

More information is expected to be available as the investigation continues.

Boise Police officers had been searching for Irwin since the first week of August. They centered Irwin into the National Crime Information Center database and the Idaho State Police Missing Persons Clearinghouse.

Anyone who may have information on the case is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency. In Ada County, people can call dispatch at (208) 377-6790.
