Allan Ebel, 63, of Boise pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Boise to possession of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson said.

In the plea agreement, Ebel admitted possessing 4,688 images and 31 videos containing child pornography on his desktop computer and external hard drive, a news release from Olson’s office stated.

According to the agreement, an electronic device at Ebel’s residence downloaded images of child porn from a website based in Switzerland at least six times in August of 2014.

In July last year, agents with the Department of Homeland Security, with help from the Boise Police Department and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at Ebel’s home in Boise, seizing numerous computers and electronic storage devices.

“Agents with the Department of Homeland Security conducted a forensic examination of the devices, and discovered images of child pornography saved in folders on a desktop computer and an external hard drive, and evidence that the devices were owned and used by Ebel,” the release said.

Sentencing is set for October 25.

Possession of child porn is punishable by up to twenty years in prison, a $250,000 fine, a term of supervised release of not less than five years and up to life, and a $100 special assessment.
