The Bureau of Land Management is reminding the public of the annual seasonal road closure of upper 8th Street in the Boise Foothills. The closure is needed to prevent road damage during wet conditions.

This seasonal closure pertains only to full-sized vehicles and is in effect from Dec. 1 to May 15, beginning 2.8 miles up the road from the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center, according to the BLM. The route remains open year-round for motorcycles, mountain bikes and all other non-motorized use.

“The purpose of this seasonal road closure has always been to prevent road damage from full-size vehicle use when the road bed is wet and easily rutted,” said BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Larry Ridenhour. “This goes a long way towards minimizing erosion and road maintenance costs, and preventing other resource damage from occurring.”

The BLM says, over the last several years, there has been an increased cost associated with repairing vandalism to the gate and damage from those trying to drive around it.
