Canyon County Prosecutor Bryan Taylor announced today that Quentin Nava, age 39, of Nampa, was sentenced by the Honorable George A. Southworth for the felony crimes of Lewd Conduct with a Child Under 16 and Sexual Abuse of a Minor Under 16.
Judge Southworth sentenced Nava to a total unified sentence of 40 years in prison, with 18 years fixed, followed by 22 years indeterminate.
During sentencing, Judge Southworth stated, “because of the nature of this case, I’m ordering that 18 years be fixed so the defendant will be in his late 50s before he is entitled to parole.”
Nava was arrested on a felony warrant in November 2016 after an investigation by the Nampa Police Department revealed he inappropriately touched two pre-teen girls while he was staying as a house guest at a residence in Nampa.
According to police, Nava, who is a registered sex offender, inappropriately touched the two young girls while they were sleeping.
“The defendant in this case is a registered sex offender who didn’t think twice about preying on young girls again,” said Prosecutor Bryan Taylor. “It highlights importance of having sex offender registries like the one in Canyon County that allow people to check on individuals by name or location. These types of tools are out there for the protection of society, and I encourage everyone to use them and use them often.”
Nava was found guilty of both charges following a jury trial in May.
Judge Southworth also ordered Nava to have no contact with the victims or any minor females for the duration of the sentence. Nava was also ordered to pay a $10,000 in civil penalties along with court costs.
