Fruitland native and Linebacker Joe Martarano has decided to give up playing football for Boise State.  Boise State confirmed Wednesday evening.

According to his Instagram biography, he has it listed as a former college linebacker for Boise State University and his recent post coming in around 5:30 pm on Wednesday saying quote “Thank you bronco nation for the memories these past four years! I wouldn’t trade it for anything and I’ll always be a bronco at heart, but after a long thought out decision, I have decided to chase my professional dream for the Chicago Cubs. #Cubs, #Broncos”

Martarano started the first game of the season against Louisiana but hurt his knee which kept him out of action until late in the season.

He was able to start against UNLV but broke his leg and finished the season with 25 tackles in nine games in 2016.

Before coming to Boise State Martarano spent the two summers playing for the Cubs in their farm system and was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
