Bronco softball team splits home opener
BSU falls to Utah State, mercies Idaho State
The Boise State softball team (10-14) split the first two games at its new home field, Dona Larsen Park.
BSU held a 1-0 lead until the sixth inning of the opener against Utah State (3-20), but the Aggies scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. The Broncos managed to come back and force extra innings, thanks to Ashley Palmer's second-career home run, but Utah State scored two runs in the eighth to win 5-3. Bronco Rebecca Patton took the loss in a complete game effort.
In the nightcap, Boise State mercied Idaho State (7-12) 8-0 in five innings. Lela Work earned the complete-game shutout, and seven different Broncos drove in a run.
Boise State will face Idaho State again Saturday at 2PM, before squaring off with Portland State at 4PM.
