Idaho Vandals fall to New Mexico State
Barone scores 19 points in last game at Idaho
The Idaho Vandals men's basketball team saw its season come to an end Thursday.
Six-seed Idaho trailed New Mexico State by just four at halftime, but the Aggies pulled away in the final 20 minutes to win 65-49 in the WAC tournament quarterfinals.
Conference player-of-the-year Kyle Barone scored a team-high 19 points in the Vandals' defeat.
"It hurts right now, knowing I'm not going to be able to play again," said Barone. "I thought this year we had a good enough team to make a run in this tournament."
Idaho head coach Don Verlin said his team just couldn't match New Mexico State's intensity in the second half. "We just ran out of gas. You've got to give the credit to them," acknowledged Verlin.
