Boise State defeated San Diego State for the first time in school history Saturday afternoon, 69-65.
Over 10,400 fans came out to Taco Bell Arena to support the Broncos in their quest to earn their first-ever at-large NCAA Tournament bid.
Senior manager Bryce Martin and center Kenny Buckner were honored before tip-off, and the Broncos responded to that energy boost with a 12-2 run to open the game.
Boise State led 31-19 at halftime, but foul trouble and an Aztec run allowed San Diego State to pull within 44-40 with 12:36 remaining. SDSU cut the deficit to three on multiple occasions, including via a Chase Tapley three with 31 seconds left, but never lead against BSU.
Derrick Marks scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half, also doling out six assists and hauling in nine rebounds. Anthony Drmic chipped in 23 points for the Broncos, and was 4-9 from three-point range.
Boise State (21-9, 9-7 MWC) will face San Diego State (21-9, 9-7 MWC) again Wednesday night in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Las Vegas.
