The Boise State men's basketball team could be close to clinching an NCAA Tournament berth with a win in its home finale.
If that isn't motivation enough to beat San Diego State, the Broncos last game against the Aztecs certainly is.
Back on February 6, Boise State trailed by 17 in the first half, but managed to come back and lead in the final minutes. However, Aztec guard Chase Tapley drained a desperation three with 2.8 seconds left, clinching a 63-62 win for SDSU.
BSU is 0-5 all-time against San Diego State, but three of those games have been decided by one possession.
"These games have been phenomenal and they've literally come down to the last shot," said Boise State head coach Leon Rice.
"The ball hasn't gone in for us like we've needed it to, but we've had great games with these guys."
"The daggers they've put in us the last couple games... They hurt," acknowledged sophomore forward Anthony Drmic. "But we're just going to come in like any other game, and hopefully come out with a 'W.'"
A win in the Broncos' regular season finale would mean a lot to center Kenny Buckner and manager Bryce Martin, the two seniors set to be honored Saturday. Coach Rice described Martin as the "Jeff Elorriaga of equipment managers," and admitted he won't be easy to replace. Neither will Buckner and the intensity he brings to the Boise State bench.
"I'm so proud of Kenny," beamed Rice. "Our goal when we get guys... Is to make them better for being here at Boise State. With Kenny, I know that's the truth."
