Derrick Marks is scoring over 16 points per game this season, but lately he's been finding other ways to help the Broncos win. In Boise State's last 3 contests, Derrick has been dishing, giving up open looks to get his teammates involved. He took just 4 shots against Corban, 5 in Arlington, and only 2 against Walla Walla, a game in which marks had a career-high nine assists.
Coach Leon Rice believes that sort of selflessness makes Marks a unique player.
"You don't find many guys that are averaging 20 points per game that are willing to go into a game where he probably could've had 40, and his priority is his teammates," said Rice.
"I mean, I easily could've just gone out there and scored or whatever, but i just like seeing my teammates make shots," explained Marks.
"I think it'll help us, because we need the confidence that they have right now."
All 11 Boise State players that dressed against Walla Walla scored at least two points. Rice attributes the Broncos' success to that sort of team effort.
"It's not just Derrick. They've all done that for each other. That's why you have three guys that have scored 30 points, that's why Jeff (Elorriaga) breaks a school record," said Rice.
"They realize that's the key to their success, and that's so impressive for me as a coach to have guys who are willing to do that."
