Bronco basketball tips off Friday
BSU hosting Saint Martin's in exhibition
The Boise State men's basketball team will hit the hardwood for the first time this season on Friday night, facing Saint Martin's in an exhibition. The lady Broncos tip-off against Lewis-Clark State at 5:30, and the men will get underway about 30 minutes after the women's squad wraps up.
The Broncos only have the chance to play in one exhibition, and they intend on taking advantage of the opportunity.
"It's a good opportunity for the freshman," said Jeff Elorriaga. "In my freshman year, I kind of showed myself to the Boise State community. I'm hoping some guys can do that too."
The Broncos are especially excited to get started because of the way last year ended. BSU lost its last 5 games- a bitter finish to what was shaping up to be a season full of promise.
"It was kind of a long summer time. We were kind of upset about the way we played last year. We want to prove that we've improved," noted Elorriaga.
Head coach Leon Rice is optimistic, but is preaching patience to his players. "As coaches, we tend to get ahead of ouselves; as fans we get ahead of ourselves. We want it to be now. We still have ten freshman and sophomores, so we are young. I don't know if we've turned the corner yet, but we can see the corner and we're approaching it."
