According to a statement released by Idaho Athletic Director Rob Spear, Vandals Head Coach Robb Akey has been fired. His termination is effective immediately.
The firing comes on the heels of Idaho's 70-28 loss to Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
Akey coached 70 games for the Vandals over the last 5 and-a-half years, going was 20-50 in that time.
In 2010, Akey signed a contract extension through December 2014. Under the terms of that agreement, the coach would still collect his base salary until 2014 or until he finds new employment. His annual salary is nearly $166,000.
Offensive coordinator Jason Gesser will serve as the Interim Coach until idaho finds a replacement.
