Broncos staying the course
Petersen sticking with complex play calls
On one side of the ball, Boise State is the 10th best team in the country. On the other... the Broncos are ranked 109th.
The success of BSU's defense and the struggles of its offense are the opposite of what you'd expect just by looking at this team on paper. Bronco nation is hoping Joe Southwick and company can turn things around against New Mexico this weekend- a game in which the boys in blue and orange are nearly a 4-touchdown favorite.
Earlier this week, a couple Boise State players suggested the Broncos slow down their offensive approach and get back their "bread and butter" plays, but Coach Petersen doesn't seem to think simplicity is the long term answer.
"I don't think anybody wants us to go out there and play conservative," noted Petersen. "I mean, you see a 7-6 game and you think that's a conservative game, but we don't think that way."
"You know, we're trying to win. I laugh and chuckle at this- 'Fake punt? Why would they put their defense in that situation?' Because we're trying to win the game. I mean, it's just that simple... and I promise you again, I'll go on record- we're going to fake more things. We're not going to back off, I don't get that mentality."
