A Boise man is in the Ada County Jail after police say he entered two unlocked vehicles in a Meridian parking lot late Tuesday night -- and was apprehended by witnesses.

It happened about 11:30 p.m. at in the 3100 block of E. Magic View Drive, across Eagle Road from St. Luke’s Hospital.

In the first case, according to Meridian Deputy Police Chief Tracy Basterrechea, Jared McNeil, 27, approached a woman seated in her vehicle -– and reportedly made two separate attempts to steal her paycheck. The woman resisted and McNeil left the scene.

“The woman was not injured, but shaken up,” Basterrechea said.

Shortly thereafter, several employees getting off work at a local fast food restaurant allegedly saw McNeil in their supervisor’s vehicle.

They detained McNeil until police arrived, Basterrechea said.

He added officers found several burglary tools in McNeil’s possession –- including two screwdrivers and a headlamp, a used syringe, and an undisclosed quantity of prescription pills. “We also found him in possession of property taken from the vehicle,” Basterrechea said.

McNeil now faces two counts of felony burglary, one count of felony robbery, and misdemeanor counts of possessing burglary tools, possessing paraphernalia, and being under the influence of a controlled substance in a public place.
