An Idaho man got the ride of his life Monday, and a chance to be a real life train engineer.

52-year-old Fred Dye’s favorite hobby growing was everything that had to do with trains. Now suffering from terminal kidney failure, he can’t get out to watch them as much as he used to. On Monday, Wish Granters stepped in to get him back on the rails.

"Fred's wish was to ride and possibly drive a train and the community members out here in Caldwell made it happen," Kelly Gibbons, a Wish Granters spokesperson said.

Dye’s sister Kim has been his caregiver for the past couple months and has been with him every step of the way.

"I in a sense was trying to create his bucket list and mark it off for him," Kim said.

Dye’s been in a lot of trains but operating one, was truly a dream come true.

Wish granters has granted 242 wishes in the last five and a half years.
