A man who police say robbed a bakery near Nyssa Saturday night with a club and a machete is now in the Malheur County Jail.

Officers arrested Thomas Rupe, 21, shortly after 3 a.m. Monday.

According to Malheur County Sheriff Brian Wolfe, Rupe entered the bakery just outside Nyssa city limits about 8 p.m. Saturday, brandishing the two weapons. He was wearing a mask and a camouflage jacket.

He demanded money from the clerk, took the money, then ran out of the bakery.

The Malheur County Sheriff’s Office deputies and officers from the Nyssa Police Department searched the area, but could not immediately find him.

Rupe was located a short time later, though, during a traffic stop and taken into custody.

He currently faces two charges of robbery and burglary. Both are felonies.
