Kids who don't have books at home tend to lose out on learning during the Summer months. That's why Six On Your Side has teamed up with United Way of Treasure Valley.

Their children's week-long book drive is coming up April 10-14.

They're hoping to surpass last year's total of about 70,000 books that were collected.

"The big, kick off event at Barnes and Noble is a great opportunity if you're out and about to drop by and, perhaps, buy a new book... share the book that was your favorite," says Nora Carpenter, CEO and president of United Way of Treasure Valley. "It's also to bring family members in to engage in activities all throughout the day around literacy and reading."

Books can be donated at Saturday's kick off event at the Barnes and Noble in Boise from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are also free activities for the kids including story time with therapy dogs.
