MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) -- The Idaho State Board of Education says the University of Idaho does not have permission to allow alcohol at tailgating events even though the college has been doing so for years.

Board president Emma Atchley tells the Lewiston Tribune that current state policy forbids alcohol on college campuses without prior approval from the board.

University spokeswoman Jodi Walker says that the university will work with the board to ensure compliance. Depending on the outcome of those conversations, the university will decide if it wants to request permission to allow alcohol at on-campus tailgating parties at the board's August meeting.

Board members recently banned alcohol sales at Boise State University and University of Idaho after giving the two institutions tentative approval for a year-long pilot program.
