Back to school season is here and a few students in the Treasure Valley are getting some help. On Saturday nearly 90 local students hit the shelves of Walmart with the help of local law enforcement. The Ada County "Shop with a Sheriff" event gives kids $200 to stock up on new clothes and school supplies, The lucky shoppers range in age from five to 17 years old and come from all six Ada County cities.

"If we can get kids prepared that's one less thing parents have to worry about. That finical stress of a new pair of shoes being $80 a backpack is $40 and right there you're just about out of money," said Travis Ruby a detective for The Ada County Sherriff's Office.

All shoppers were nominated to participate by school resource officers, counselors or detention deputies and are either struggling financially or could benefit from a positive one-on-one experience with local police. The event is paid for by public donations to the Ada County Sheriff Employee's Association.
