A missing mother and son that never returned home following a Mother's Day drive in Elmore County are safe, according to officials.

Gregory Pruett told police that the vehicle he was driving with his mother became stuck overnight.  However, the duo was prepared in case of an emergency.

Pruett was able to get the vehicle unstuck and called their family to assure them they were safe.

Elmore County Dispatch originally received a call late Sunday night that 53-year-old Gregory Pruett of Star, Idaho and his 74-year-old mother, Carolyn Brennan of Boise, Idaho failed to return home after a Mother’s Day drive in the mountains near Twin Springs on the Middle Fork of the Boise River.

"We are very happy for this outcome," a statement from the sheriff's office explained.
