BOISE, Idaho  – Robie boat launch, Mores Arm lake area and several boat-in camping areas will be temporarily off limits to visitors Thursday, July 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to accommodate helicopter water-bucket operations supporting Mile Marker 14 Fire emergency-response efforts east of Boise, near Lucky Peak Dam and Lake, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, operations officials at the dam.

At the request of fire incident managers, and out of safety concerns for both visitors and emergency responders, a boating restriction zone will be in effect for Mores Arm, allowing helicopters fitted with buckets to draw water from Lucky Peak Lake and deliver it to active fire areas to help extinguish hot spots. Swimmers and all vessels, including non-motorized craft, are temporarily restricted from the area. Corps staff are evacuating several boat-in camping areas to ensure visitors are able to leave the helicopter operating area before Robie boat launch is closed.

The Mile Marker 14 Fire, which was first reported Wednesday morning, spread quickly, burning around 4,500 acres by Wednesday afternoon. Visitors are encouraged to visit Lucky Peak’s Facebook page for current announcements about recreational access to the lake.

Updates will be provided as recreation areas are reopened.
