A 70-year-old Meridian man has been booked into the Ada County Jail after police say he inappropriately touched himself on a number of occasions in front of two underage girls and solicited them to touch him.

Jack Coopersmith was arrested at his home in the 2500 block of West Tango Creek Drive in Meridian late Wednesday afternoon.

According to Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea, a Meridian Police Student Resource Officer was contacted by a staff member from an area school after one of the victims came forward to report the sexual abuse.

Police declined to identify the school.

Investigators say they believe the abuse occurred over a period of two to three months at the suspect’s residence.

The victims are younger than sixteen. “Both were known to the suspect prior to the abuse,” Basterrechea said.

“We believe the suspect also solicited the girls to touch him, but there’s no indication the touching actually occurred,” he added.

Police do not believe there are any additional victims.

Coopersmith was charged with felony child sexual abuse by soliciting a minor under the age of 16 to participate in a sexual act.
