Concern at Centennial High School in Meridian Thursday morning when a student sent a picture of a gun -– and the words “Here I come” -– to the school’s social media account.

In an e-mail to parents, Centennial High Principal Mike Farris stated, “The photograph was taken in a law enforcement class at Centennial last year during a demonstration by officers who were guest speakers.”

He added both the school and the police identified the student responsible.

But no gun was found on campus.

“The Boise Police SRO at the school was notified by school staff (Thursday) morning. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time,” said Boise Police spokeswoman Haley Williams.

West Ada School District spokesman Eric Exline said it appears only one student was involved. But, in following district policy, he could not disclose whether the student was suspended. “This is the type of incident, however, where a suspension is not unusual,” he said.

“I’ve experienced more than once where high school students post something like this on social media. They think it’s edgy. But the school and parents do not take it that way. They take it very seriously. And it ultimately causes problems for both the school and the student,” Exline stated.
