A student from Meridian High School is in big trouble and parents are not happy following a prank involving a fake bomb.

According to the West Ada School District, a substitute teacher found a kitchen timer with the word “bomb” written on it in a classroom Tuesday.

An on-campus police officer responded to the classroom -- where a student admitted that the “bomb” was a hoax.

The school district sent a text message to parents assuring them that students were safe and decided to not to take further action due to the obviously false nature of the hoax.

West Ada School District spokesman Eric Exline told 6 On Your Side that if the threat had been more serious in nature, then parents would have been more involved.

“It’s difficult to describe everything that happened in so many characters, but we did want parents to know that something happened,” Exline said. “We want (parents) to realize that there wasn’t a real event, there wasn’t a bomb and there wasn’t a threat or danger.”

Exline said the student could face expulsion following the prank.
