The Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a likely homicide/suicide.

On Tuesday, the Office received a report of a suspicious vehicle spotted near the town of Hammett.

Responding deputies discovered the body of a dead woman, later identified as Desiree Vistercil, 31, in the driver’s seat of a 2005 Ford Focus.

Given the long response distance, the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office requested help from the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office and dispatched an ambulance from Glenns Ferry.

Deputies also found the body of a 16-month-old female in the back seat of the vehicle. According to Owyhee County Sheriff Perry Grant, “The child was immersed face down in a white five-gallon bucket, containing approximately three gallons of water.”

Owyhee County Coroner Aaron Tines determined the child had died from drowning and the woman had died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

“At this time, all evidence leads toward a homicide and suicide,” Grant said. “The investigation is still very new to us.”
