BEND, Ore. (AP) -- A 73-year-old resident of a Bend assisted-living home was arrested on arson charges after a blaze prompted an evacuation.
Neighbors reported seeing flames climbing the south side of the building.
Residents were evacuated until firefighters extinguished the fire.
Police said Saturday that James Kenneth Grant, a resident of the facility, was a suspect.
Grant was taken to St. Charles Bend for a medical evaluation, then to the Deschutes County Jail. He was booked on 67 counts each of first-degree arson and attempted criminally negligent homicide - one for each life threatened -- and criminal mischief.
His bail totaled more than $5 million. He's scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
