Nampa Mayor Bob Henry will recommend Kelly Gibbons for the soon-to-be vacant spot on Nampa City Council.

The Council will be asked to approve the appointment at the Dec. 19 meeting.

Gibbons was selected after Henry conducted interviews with the six finalists he selected from the 26 qualified applicants.

“I believe Kelly will do an excellent job on the City Council,” Henry said. “Honestly, because we had so many excellent applicants, this process has been very difficult. Any of the six finalists would have been a great addition to the Council. I spent quite a bit of time considering the pros and cons of each finalist before making my decision.”

Gibbons said she is honored to have Henry's recommendation to hold the seat for the Nampa City Council position vacated by Pam White.

“It is a privilege for me to have the opportunity to serve the city and community from this capacity,” Gibbons said. “Truly, I am excited to start this journey and am very appreciative.”

Gibbons is the executive director for Wish Granters of Idaho. She also holds an independent contract with the Nampa Family Justice Center, coordinating volunteers and events. She plans to terminate that contract on Dec. 31.

Gibbons has spent a good part of her career in coaching and service and has volunteered with non-profit organizations including the Nampa Family Justice Center. She is a member of the current Nampa Chamber of Commerce Leadership Nampa class.

Although he did not appoint a committee to assist in the selection process, Henry did seek feedback from current City Council members.

The Mayor said he plans to take his recommendation to City Council for a vote on Dec. 19.

Once approved, Gibbons will be sworn in at the Jan. 3 City Council meeting, the same night White will step down, because she has been elected to serve on the Canyon County Board of Commissioners.
