A Nampa man has been booked into the Ada County Jail in connection with a fatal crash last year.

Garden City Police officers, with help from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office and the Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force, arrested Dakota Smith, 25, of Nampa Wednesday.

Smith was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, aggravated DUI, and driving without privileges.

Garden City Police officers responded to the crash July 1, 2016, about 1:30
a.m, near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Lake Front Place.

They discovered Adrian Shaw, 34, dead as a result of injuries he sustained in the collision. Officers talked with two other men at the scene, neither would admit to being the driver of the vehicle, according to a Garden City Police Department news release.

Since that time, Garden City detectives have been conducting what they called a “lengthy investigation,” examining evidence collected at the scene the night of the collision to identify who was driving the vehicle. They say that evidence eventually led them to determine Smith was driving.

Smith is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Thursday afternoon.
