Traveling by passenger train may be a thing of the past but model railroad groups aren't losing steam when it comes to sharing their hobby with the public.

Several local model train groups combined forces Saturday at the library on the corner of Ustick and Cole Roads.

Kids got to play games and even operate the trains.

Part of the groups' mission is to keep the hobby alive. Based on recent turnouts, they seem to be on track.

"It's fun to operate them by yourself in your basement, but we like to get out and invite the kids of all ages, from 3-90, it doesn't make any difference," said John Eichmann with the Rocky Mountain Hi-Railers. "I've never seen anyone come in and leave without a smile."

The model trains will also be up and running Sunday, Feb. 28 from 1-3:30 p.m.

If you can't make it, the next time to catch em' is at the Emmett Cherry Festival in June.
