Meridian Police set up a perimeter around the Motel 6 in the 1000 block of S. Progress Avenue early Tuesday morning, after a motel employee reported that a .38 revolver, an X-box and other items had been stolen from his vehicle.

Officers were called to the motel about 2:30 a.m. to investigate the burglary. They searched the area, but did not immediately find anything that would lead them to the suspect or suspects, said Meridian Police Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea.

After the officers left, the victim received information the two suspects were guests at the motel. The victim confronted the suspects and reportedly saw the stolen items in their room.

He notified police. When officers returned, they discovered the suspects had left their room.

“Officers set up a perimeter around the motel and a K-9 was called in,” Basterrechea said. “The K-9 alerted on some bushes across the street from the motel, where the suspects were found hiding.”

Police arrested James Hyde, 24 and Brittany Kildow, 27. Both are from Nampa. Hyde is charged with felony grand theft and felony burglary. He is also charged with a misdemeanor of resisting and obstructing officers. Kildow is charged with a felony of being an accessory, and withholding information from officers. She also faces a misdemeanor of resisting and obstructing officers.

“The lesson here is: whenever you leave valuables in your vehicle, do not leave them in plain sight,” Basterrechea stated. “Either secure them in a safe place out of sight or take them with you.”
