Trader Joe's coming to Boise
Urban grocer announces location
Plenty of questions still surrounding the announcement of a new urban grocery store in Boise.
As we told you last night, Trader Joe’s is building smack in the heart of downtown.
Here’s what some folks said on our face book page. Things like, why didn't Trader Joe’s build near Fairview and Eagle? And how will they handle parking?
Questions a lot of people are asking today. It’s what many folks in Boise have been waiting to hear for years.
“We're excited about the news. You got a hip urban grocer coming to a hip urban place and we think it's exciting and a nice complement to Boise,” said Bill Connors, President and CEO of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce.
This is the site where the new Trader Joe’s will set up shop, the southeast corner lot of Capital and Front.
Which is now a parking lot.
“I think it's a good economy boost for the area and the city. Trader Joes got some good products,” said Carl Dorsey.
Carl Dorsey uses this parking lot and he says he doesn’t mind losing the parking if Trader Joe’s is the pay-off.
"Well parking downtown is always and issue regardless of the business or venue, but maybe they can come up with a better parking garage or something like that,” said Carl Dorsey.
This is a preliminary sketch of what the store will look like. Trader Joe’s won't say exactly when it's opening or when construction will begin.
Nevertheless, when the store does open it will make this downtown corridor pretty hip.
“If you look at the corridor behind me and you go to the new Whole Foods to the new law school to Trader Joe’s, to a Bodo, to the new Jump project to the new whitewater park, what an exciting corridor of entertainment and recreation,” said Connors.
Some people say the new store is a good addition to the area, despite the fact it already has several grocers
“Competition's good for the market down here regardless of who it is, and Trader Joe I love their wasabi peas and variety like that, they’ve got some good products, they really do,” said Dorsey.
