Police skeptical over rumors of missing dogs in the Magic Valley
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- Law enforcement officers around Twin Falls are asking people to make police reports if their animals go missing, because despite a rash of rumors about disappearing dogs in the region, police have no real evidence of an ongoing problem.
Jerome Police Chief Dan Hall says law enforcement officers need real information, not just someone saying they heard a story about a missing dog from someone third-hand.
The rumors started earlier this year, with claims that dogs were disappearing or that they were being used as bait animals for dog fights. While there have been a few police reports of stolen or slain animals, authorities say there's no recent increase in the reports compared to the numbers they normally receive.
