Idaho 44 traffic to be shifted as crews widen highway
Over the next several days, the Idaho Transportation Department will begin to shift traffic on Idaho 44 to the south, as the second phase of improvements to the Idaho 44/Linder Road intersection and surrounding area gets under way. The traffic shift will be in place through spring 2013, said ITD spokesman Reed Hollinshead.
“On Monday night, March 25, the eastbound and westbound lanes of Idaho 44 will be shifted to enable crews to work on widening and rebuilding the north side of the highway. Crews will begin preparing for the traffic shift on Friday and Saturday, with construction occurring primarily at night. When complete, Idaho 44 will be widened to five lanes between W. State Street and Linder Road," Hollinshead said.
ITD began work on the project in November of last year, and is expected to finish by this fall.
In addition to widening the highway, the project includes rebuilding the intersection of Idaho 44 and Linder Road. The new intersection will have two through lanes on Idaho 44, double left-turn bays on Linder Road, and right-turn lanes at all four sides of the intersection.
“Every day approximately 19,000 motorists drive through the Idaho 44/Linder Road intersection. The improvements that ITD is making will improve safety, reduce congestion and allow for a smoother flow of traffic,” Hollinshead said.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down and pay attention when passing through the construction zone, and to plan extra time for the trip, he added.
