Sun Valley Film Festival kicks off Thursday

The second annual Sun Valley Film Festival starts Thursday, March 14, and is expecting some great films, guests and plenty of things to keep the whole family entertained. The 2013 Sun Valley Film Festival is in Sun Valley, March 14-17, and presented by Zions Bank.

The festival starts off Thursday morning with “Celeste and Jesse Forever,” a film featuring Will McCormack, who also helped write the screenplay. At 5 p.m. the opening films will be at the Sun Valley Opera House and NexStage Theatre. The night ends at the Casino with the Red Bull and Pabst Opening Night Party featuring live music from El Stash.

Coffee Talk begins Friday morning, March 15, with Academy Award-winning writer Stephan Gaghan, who wrote screenplays for movies like “Traffic” and “Rules of Engagement.” Film screenings follow throughout the day, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., at the Sun Valley Opera House, NexStage Theatre, Magic Lantern Cinemas and the Liberty Theatre.

A 3 p.m. Press Conference with the Sun Valley Film Festival, African Wildlife Federation, and Nat Geo WILD will be held at the Festival Headquarters. Tito’s Handmade Vodka VIP Party brings the night to an end, with DJ N8 and Sun Valley Festival’s signature cocktail; this event is for VIP pass holders and invited guests only.

Saturday morning, March 16, begins with Coffee Talk as usual. Film Screenings start at 11 a.m. and continue throughout the day. From 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., there is Sun Valley Film Festival’s Family Film Fest featuring free screenings of Nat Geo WILD’s “Kingdom of the Oceans,” and other TV premieres suited for the entire family at the Liberty Theatre.

Zions Bank Hollywood Heritage Screening will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Sun Valley Opera House featuring Clint Eastwood’s classic “American Western Pale Rider,” produced and filmed in Sun Valley and introduced by the producer of the film, David Valdes. The night ends with the Lionsgate Main Event Party at Whiskey Jacques featuring Idaho’s own indie rock band Built to Spill.

Sunday, March 17, will again begin with Coffee Talk, this time featuring Academy Award-winning actor/director Jodie Foster at the NexStage Theatre. Film Screenings will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Sun Valley Opera House and NexStage Theatre. The festival ends with the closing ceremony, hosted by Jodie Foster, and the presentation of the Vision Award.
