In less than 48 hours the Nampa School District will know if voters come to the rescue.

Supporters of Tuesday's levy will vote in hopes of protecting bright futures for their children but opponents say they won’t bail out the district for its mistakes.

Tasha Hugo will vote "Yes." She and husband Toby have four kids in the district.

This mom says she was furious with district leaders when the community first found out about Nampa Schools $4.3 million deficit, but Hugo contends what’s done is done and going forward her twin girls can’t afford to see their band class on the chopping block.

“They don’t love school because they sit in math for an hour and a half," Hugo said. "They love school because they get to be a part of something that is helping to develop who they want to be for the rest of their lives.”

Homeowner Mary Jo Hayes plans to vote "No".

“The school district got themselves in this situation," Hayes said. "Those in charge of the should be responsible for finding a way to get themselves out of it.”

Leaders with the district maintain taxes will not go up if the levy passes. Instead, bonds will be refinanced to move money. Regardless of the result, the district will still be in the red, spending more money than it takes in. However, passage of the levy could soften the blow.

“How long are we going to say it’s not fair," Hugo said. "I know it’s not fair but it’s not fair to take away everything my kids love either. As parents we’re the last backstop our kids have.”

Polls open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Pass or fail, Nampa schools received court approval in February to borrow money and meet its financial needs throughout the end of this school year.
