Homicide victim's name released; suspect appears in court
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A 55-year-old Boise man is charged in the beating death of a homeless woman whose body was found at a downtown Boise hotel.
Thomas Herman was arrested Tuesday and made an initial court appearance Wednesday on a charge of first-degree murder by torture. He was jailed without bond.
Officers were called to the Cabana Inn at about 7 a.m. Tuesday after a report of a suspicious death.
The Ada County coroner said Mamokete Folkes died at about 5 a.m. Charging documents allege Herman hit the woman with his hands and feet, causing a fatal brain injury, broken bones and a lacerated kidney.
The Idaho Statesman reports Herman was on probation after pleading guilty to disturbing the peace after a woman said he threatened to kill her with a knife.
