Man sentenced to probation in dairy cruelty case
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- A man who was convicted of cruelty to animals after a hidden camera captured employees at a south-central Idaho dairy stomping, dragging and beating cows in a milking barn has been sentenced to a year of supervised probation.
The Times-News reports 25-year-old Jesus Garza was sentenced Tuesday for his actions at a Murtaugh dairy.
Prosecutors asked that Garza not be allowed to work with animals while he's on probation, but defense attorney Kent Jensen said Garza already had a job at another dairy.
Fifth District Magistrate Judge Calvin Campbell ordered Garza not to work with livestock until further order from the court, but said if a letter or a meeting with Garza's new employer convinced him there were proper animal welfare policies in place, he may allow Garza to work with animals again.
