Two charged with aggravated battery and robbery
Two Boise men are charged with aggravated battery and robbery after an incident in Eagle Thursday night.
Eagle Police and Ada County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Eagle Fire Station #2 at about 7 p.m. Thursday for a report of an unclothed, injured man who said he had been beaten up and robbed near the Eagle Skate Park.
Deputies responded immediately along with detectives and began an investigation. Ada County Paramedics also responded and transported the 25-year-old Boise man to St. Alphonsus in Eagle for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening. He was released from the hospital later in the evening.
Detectives quickly identified two suspects believed to be involved in the beating, Patrick C. Brown, 27, and Kenneth Bowers, 32, both of Boise. Based on information and evidence gathered so far, investigators determined Bowers and the victim had been at a party on Taft Street in Boise earlier in the evening Thursday. Bowers alerted Brown that the victim was there and asked him to come over. Bowers and Brown claim the victim owed their friend money.
Investigators say Bowers, Brown, another adult male and adult female told the victim he needed to repay the money owed. When the 25-year-old said he didn’t have the full amount, the groups told the victim to take a drive with them. The five drove to a parking lot in the 3100 block of East Greenbrook Street. Bowers, Brown and the other male passenger forced the victim out of the car and began punching him with brass knuckles and closed fists. One of the men also used a baseball bat to hit the 25-year-old more than a dozen times, including blows to the head.
After battering the victim, the suspects demanded he remove all of his clothing. The group took the 25-year-old’s clothes and his backpack containing nearly $500 in cash and left the area. Detectives say Bowers disposed of the victim’s clothing, the baseball bat and pellet gun he had in his possession. The suspects kept the man’s backpack and later hid it in a relative’s garage.
Detectives put out an alert to other law enforcement officers in Ada County in an attempt to locate the suspects. A Boise Police patrol officer located Bowers and Brown at a gas station at the corner of Liberty and Fairview. Both were taken into custody and transported to the Ada County Jail. Bowers was booked on charges of aggravated battery, robbery and destruction/alteration of evidence (all felonies). Brown was booked on charges of aggravated battery and robbery (both felonies). They are scheduled to be arraigned on the charges this afternoon in District Court.
Detectives located the other male and female believed to be involved in the incident. This investigation is ongoing; additional arrests and charges are pending.
