Garden City Police arrest Boise man after vehicle pursuit
At approximately 10:00 PM a Garden City Police Officer observed a 1999 White Saturn passenger car backed up to a closed business. Due to the suspicious activity, the officer activated his overhead lights and attempted to contact the sole occupant, who was later identified as Derrell W. Nevil, 54, Boise.
Before the officer could make contact, Nevil fled from the scene at a high rate of speed. Due to the speeds and the fact that Nevil's vehicle was headed towards a residential neighborhood, the pursuit was immediately terminated.
Approximately two minutes later, a different Garden City Police Officer observed Nevil's vehicle turn northbound onto E. 50th Street, from Alworth Street. E. 50th Street dead ends at the Boise River.
As the officer initiated his emergency lights and sirens, Nevil did a U-turn and fled at a high rate of speed southbound on E. 50th Street. As Nevil fled he made an overt attempt to ram a marked police vehicle who was attempting to assist.
Nevil's attempt to ram a police officer constituted a felony assault.
Garden City Police continued the pursuit with Nevil as a result of his aggressive and felonious actions. The pursuit continued westbound through the Ada County Fairgrounds reaching speeds in excess of 30 MPH over the posted speed limit. Upon exiting the fairgrounds, Nevil drove northbound on Glenwood Street and turned eastbound on Marigold Street, where he was eventually boxed in by Garden City and Boise Police Officers.
Nevil was taken into custody without further incident.
Although no one was injured as a result of the pursuit, Nevil was treated at the scene by the Ada County Paramedics and transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center where he was treated for an unknown medical condition.
Upon release form the Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Nevil was transported to the Ada County Jail where he was booked on charges of Felony Eluding Police, Felony Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, and Misdemeanor Resisting Arrest.
Garden City Police are investigating Nevil for potential drug related DUI charges, which will be routed to the Ada County Prosecutor's Office. Nevil will be arraigned at the Ada County Courthouse on February 22, 2013, at 1:00 PM.
